The City of Emporia has a wide variety of positions that require varied skills and abilities from heavy physical labor to highly trained skills and technical expertise.

Applicants must take residence in Lyon County if employed and must continue to reside within the county limits while so employed.

The City of Emporia reserves the right to administer polygraph tests, drug tests, background screening and driving record checks during the employment process when the results can be used in measuring the applicant's ability to perform the job. Preplacement medical exam will be required for certain positions and a drug/alcohol screening and background check will be required for all positions after a conditional offer of employment has been made.

Personnel Specialist
The Personnel Specialist assists our employees with issues concerning payroll, health insurance, retirement benefits, workman's compensation and other questions they may have. The Specialist prepares reports as requested by management and other departments; studies and researches to maintain knowledge on benefits, worker's compensation and insurance changes.
